One from hell, the other above

I want to point
and say to the other
“I’m nothing like you. I could never.”

But alas, I’m afraid,
my heart so desperately leans its own way
with wickedness and hurt
I can’t control it
it’s pervert

But contrasting my aching and teetering heart,
I’m wholly other
pure, chaste, kind, truly smother
I am all at once wicked
and all at once right

It’s a mysterious redeemer
to let us as two natures at once
kill and toil
destroy in foibles
sing and nurture
with abiding love
one from hell, the other above.

Help us deny
and cling to our brother
Who lets us live more like the other
through the power of the spirit within
who conforms us
to be akin to Him.
