Some friends of ours are in the process of starting a Christ-centered classical school on the West Side of Chicago/Oak Park area. On Sunday, they had a formal meeting with a guest speaker from the Oaks School in Indianappolis, Indiana. This woman who spoke has studied the Charlotte Mason Classical School Philosophy and has applied many of Charlotte Mason’s practices into her school’s structure. I had never heard of Charlotte Mason and have since been reading up on her. She has a fabulous approach to overall education for children that is holistic and invigorating. “The Charlotte Mason method is based on Charlotte’s firm belief that the child is a person and we must educate that whole person, not just his mind. So a Charlotte Mason education is three-pronged: in her words, “Education is an Atmosphere, a Discipline, a Life.” (cited from simplycharlottemason.com)
I came across a practical way to try the Charlotte Mason method in your home as you encourage your son or daughter to study and practice music. Click the link here to read the article on listening, singing, and practicing music at home.
